This hands-on dig kit contains a genuine spiny spider, fortune beetle, & scorpion preserved in acrylic.
In the box, you also get a digging tool (not dangerously sharp), a tiny brush for removing dust, a small plastic magnifying glass and a reading/game booklet. Perfect gift for any kid aged 6-12 that is interested in bugs.

My kids were excited to open the box. It is shiny, colorful and interesting. One thing you really need to know is digging stuff is a very messy business. We learned this as we have bought similar items before. It is better to have a tablecloth, towel or something to keep the mess in place .And then you just wrap all the crumbs and dust all in one swoop after you are done.

Once the marbles were out and washed we sat down with the colorful guide to read more about the insects and study them with a magnifying glass. The information was educational as well as fun and kept the kids interested.

I was a little bit worried that while the kids were excavating that The insects would get messed up by a leg getting cut off or something along that line but that isn't possible because the bugs are encased in a substance to keep them safe. The kids squealed in delight and made me break up the clay bug into very small pieces as they were hoping to find more marbles hidden within.

The bugs are small enough to put in your mouth so if you have a small child keep a close eye on them so they don't swallow it . This is a awesome fun learn experience for the kids and something you can do with them to help them learn about insects in the world. Very unique gift for the kid in your life. The bug was easy to dig yet still challenging enough to be a fun activity for all .
